Bundoora Bowling Club is a fairly youthful club. Looking around the greens, there appears to be a lot of bowlers who, like me, wouldn’t have even been around to see man walk on the moon.

The club was formed in November 1972 following earlier discussions that had taken place over that year. The club played on the greens at Hurstbridge Bowling Club until the first green was opened in February of 1974.

The first clubhouse, which was a tin shed, was built in December 1974, replacing the tents that were used prior to this shed being built.

The club has a background of theatrical productions, with a previous melodrama produced by club members titled ‘Who stole my grippo!’ On top of this, for the last 7 years, a singing group called ‘Bundoora Chorus’ has entertained – for no charge - around 40 elderly persons’ facilities around Christmas time

The club has had some good success of late, with the men winning the 2004-2005 Pennant premier division title, whilst the ladies have dominated division A1 in their section over the past decade. The club also boasts the current under 30s champion and Victorian state representative Lee Schraner.

The widening appeal of lawn bowls to a younger generation is evident here at Bundoora. Through promotional initiatives and support of youth, the club’s new generation of bowlers will be representing Bundoora for a long time yet.
