About Skipjack Productions
In mid-2005 Skipjack Productions was created to fill a need, seen by an experienced bowls coach, for lawn bowls visual teaching aids. The end result was Lawn Bowls - An Introduction, a video cassette and DVD that looked at the basic skills needed to play lawn bowls as well as providing a glossary and a presentation on etiquette.
The success of the DVD provided the motive for the creation of a television programme devoted to lawn bowls. The 13 episode series was first broadcasted on channel 31 Melbourne from December 2006 to February 2007 and in Brisbane from April to June 2007. The Lawn Bowls Show has subsequently been repeated many times on c31. At its peak, in many weeks, the show attracted an audience of over 50,000 viewers. Segments on the show included interviews, a look at local clubs, speed bowls (a modified version of the game), green talk (vox pops) and master classes.
Towards the end of 2007 Skipjack decided to conclude the run of Lawn Bowls - An Introduction and create a new DVD, titled The Lawn Bowls DVD Coach, which was to incorporate a re-shoot of the introduction video which featured on the first DVD as well as a selection of segments taken from The Lawn Bowls Show. The DVD went on sale in early 2008.
Following strong sales of The Lawn Bowls DVD Coach, in early 2010 Skipjack created a companion to the DVD which is designed for coaches to use as a teaching aid and bowlers looking to advance their game.
